We thought it may be useful for anyone considering booking, to take some time to answer a few of our most frequently asked questions….
What exactly is a Cake Smash?
Perhaps the most important question! Cake Smash sessions originated in America, and are becoming more and more popular over here. We have seen a massive increase on Cake Smash enquiries this year, and it is now becoming very much the norm. Our sessions begin with a beautiful portrait, capturing the birthday boy or girl looking angelic before the fun begins! We then change into the Cake Smash outfit, and introduce the decorations and the cake. We coax the most important little person in the room to dig into the cake – sometimes, reluctantly at first, but once they have that first taste, they tuck in, and the squidging, squashing, throwing and playing begins! We round off the session with a bubble bath – often when the biggest grins are captured!
Do I have to bring a cake?
Not unless you would like to! We work very closely with Amy at Blondie Bakes Cakes, and once you have booked your Cake Smash and chosen your colour scheme, we will be guided by your tastes and ideas, feed these back to Amy, and let her work her creative magic!
My child has allergies – does that mean it’s not possible to do a Cake Smash?
We tailor the cake ingredients for any dietary requirements, so don’t worry! We will always make sure that the cake is suitable for your little one.
When should I book the Cake Smash for? Do I have to come on the actual birthday?
You are welcome to book for wherever suits you and your family best. We do find that most families choose to book their session a few weeks before the big day, as they choose to use some of the images for invitations and thank you letters. We also have had families who have booked the Cake Smash for the morning of the birthday, and then had a family party that afternoon – so it is entirely up to you! We do recommend that you contact us well in advance, as although we make every effort to fit in every family, our diary is exceptionally busy.
I have lots of ideas of what I would like – is that ok?
Absolutely! We have a very extensive range of traditional Cake Smash outfits for you to choose from, plus our range of Disney outfits. We love working with mums to help create their vision for this special milestone, and will happily source any additional items needed to fulfil your vision, at no extra cost! If you would like something slightly different from a traditional Cake Smash – let us know, creating our unique set ups are what we enjoy most! We have some very exciting and unique set up’s in the pipeline for this year, so keep an eye on our Facebook page for ideas! Do I need to purchase a certain amount of images?
Absolutely not! There is no minimum spend when deciding which images to purchase, all of the prices are on our website here, and we are more than happy to quote for a combination of images that is not featured. You will not be pressurised by time either, so please do not feel you must decide within a few days following your session.
