Fletcher’s Cake Smash!

Blog

This super cute little man came to visit my studio for his Cake Smash session, and stole my heart the minute I saw him! He has the most stunning eyes and cheeky smile – a future heartbreaker for sure!

I love the excitement of a Cake Smash… there is a celebratory feeling in the studio as I create images to capture this huge milestone.  There is always lots of laughing and singing during a cake smash, and it is generally a very fun and noisy morning!

Fletcher was full of energy and giggles from the minute he arrived at the studio, and couldn’t wait to explore all corners of the room!  Once we had all had some refreshments and let Fletcher get used to the studio, we moved onto the shoot, and he loved every minute!

With all my Cake Smash sessions, I have four clear sections – portrait shots in a sitter outfit, then a quick change into a birthday outfit with coordinating decorations and props, and then we bring out the beautifully iced cake (when the fun really starts!) and lastly a splash in the claw-footed mini bathtub.

We decided to dress Fletcher in a handmade grey dungaree outfit with a matching cap.  The colour really complimented his eyes and hair and he looked scrummy!

We then moved onto the birthday part of the session, so we changed Fletcher into a very cute baby blue gingham checked outfit, complete with matching birthday hat and tie.  I have a huge assortment of outfits with coordinating bunting, tassels, balloons, and much more!  Before any session, I will work with the client so that I know exactly what they are looking for.

I captured some images of Fletcher sitting in front of the bunting with the giant ‘ONE’, before we decided to bring out the cake – luckily I managed to capture the moment his face said ‘wow, is this cake really for me!?!’

The cakes are created by a wonderful local baker called Blondie Bakes.  We work together to create the perfect cake for the session – I give details of the outfits and colours I am planning to use, and then she interprets that into a bespoke cake made especially for the birthday boy or girl.  All cakes can be made allergy free if required.

Fletcher was a lot less cautious than many of my Cake Smashers, and was happily digging into the cake and icing from the minute it was placed in front of him, with lots of sharing with mummy!

Once Fletcher was thoroughly covered in cake, it was time to bring out the bath, full of bubbles so that Fletcher could have a splash and a sing-song.

After we managed to coax him out of the bath and wrap him in a big snuggly towel, I wrapped up the cake for mummy to take home.

I always add a social media teaser the evening of a session, as I know how keen parents are to see an image as quickly as possible!  Following that, I have the secure gallery created within 1-2 weeks.

If you would like to book a Cake Smash, please use the ‘Contact’ page on my website, or contact me via my social media pages.  I would love to hear from you!

When it comes to family photoshoots, we generally imagine a family portrait created within a studio, and yes, this is what indeed most of our clients come for and we are happy to provide as this is one of the most popular forms of family shoots.
