At the beginning of January I entered the monthly Guild of Photographers competition, and was delighted to recently learn that the seven images I entered that month were all recognised with Bronze awards (see more in my recent Facebook post) which is an incredible personal achievement to receive in one month. I have received lots of questions about the competition, so I thought it would be a good idea for me to explain a little about what this means for me as a photographer, and for you as a valued client….
I joined The Guild of Photographers in July 2017 in order to be part of a national federation which judges my photography with a highly critical eye, with a goal to continuously striving to improve my photography and therefore the whole experience for my clients.
The Guild of Photographers run a monthly competition which is open to photographers nationwide, and allows each photographer to enter a maximum of nine photographs (some months I may choose to enter fewer). The images are reviewed by a panel of highly experienced judges, using a very wide criteria – impact, presentation, technical excellence, lighting, technique, creativity, story telling, subject matter, colour balance, composition, centre of interest and style.
Having this competition in mind when planning my sessions, means that the composition of the set up, poses and props used is always being created with the highest standard in mind for my families.
Selecting which images to enter is such a difficult task! I spend hours deciding which to select and could easily choose nine from each session! If you have not seen your baby as one of my winning images, it doesn’t necessarily mean that it wasn’t entered – or it may mean that I choose to enter it in a different month.
To be recognised at such a high national level with seven images in one month has put me on top of the world! It means that I am gaining recognition for the standard of images I provide to families that choose me, and that I am gaining an understanding of how to constantly improve.
I hope you have enjoyed reading this and please feel free to contact me with any questions. Remember to also follow me on Facebook and Instagram to see sneak peeks from recent sessions!
